David City Woman Wins $10,000 Playing Powerball

Ruby Barlean August 31, 2012 – Ruby Barlean of David City recently won $10,000 playing Powerball from the Nebraska Lottery.

There were more than 13,000 Nebraska Lottery winners in the Saturday, August 4th drawings. Among these winners was Barlean, who received her winning ticket as a gift from her granddaughter. The ticket contained one play with four of the five winning white ball numbers (19, 30, 48, 53, 55) and the Powerball number (18) from the August 4 drawing for $10,000.

Three hundred and ninety Nebraska Lottery players have won the $10,000 Powerball prize to date.

While claiming her prize on August 6, Barlean told Nebraska Lottery officials that her granddaughter bought 90 Powerball tickets and gave them to her as a birthday present. The tickets were purchased at Casey’s General Store, 2903 23rd Street in Columbus. Barlean plans to split the $10,000 prize between her eight grandchildren. “They had a recent party for me, an open house. I just had a thrill of a lifetime," she said. "I wanted somebody else to be happy with me."

The odds of winning $10,000 playing Powerball are 1 in 648,975, and the overall odds of winning any prize are 1 in 31.8.
