Columbus Man Wins $40,000 Playing Powerball Power Play®

L.R. Weed June 12, 2012 – L.R. Weed of Columbus recently won $40,000 playing Nebraska Powerball with Power Play.

Weed purchased his winning Powerball ticket at Corner Stop, 220 23rd Street in Columbus. The quick pick ticket contained one play with four of the five winning white ball numbers (13, 14, 41, 49, 59) and the Powerball number (14) for $10,000.

Because Weed added the $1 Power Play option to his purchase, his prize was increased from $10,000 to $40,000. This is the first $40,000 prize won in Nebraska since the Powerball game was modified in January 2012.

While claiming his prize on May 29, Weed told Nebraska Lottery officials that he learned he had won after checking the Nebraska Lottery website, nelottery.com. “I was two numbers away from winning the jackpot,” said Weed. “I had a 39 instead of a 41.” He plans to pay bills and complete some home improvements using his winnings.

The odds of winning $10,000 playing Powerball are 1 in 648,976. Adding the $1 Power Play option, which does not affect the odds of winning, gives players the chance to play for enhanced prizes from $12 to $2 million. The overall odds of winning any prize are 1 in 31.8.
